The 100+ Brands of the B2SMB Institute

Welcome to the B2SMB Institute’s SMB FIN 1000 Directory:

As the Business-to-Small-Business marketspace has gained greater definition over the last few years, many in the B2SMB community have sought a census of who sells what, the “players” in the space.

The B2SMB Institute’s inaugural SMB FIN 1000 Directory is a first step in identifying those brands that sell financial products and services in 10 offering categories.

Along with the soon to be released
SMB G2M (“Go to Market”) 1000 Directory of marketing and sales products and services, and the SMB OPS 1000 Directory of operation and business management products and services, the Institute intends to provide a “rolling inventory” of brands that do big business with Small Business.

The FIN 1000 first release is comprised of the following 10 categories:

        • Accounting Software

        • Bookkeeping Software

        • Business Intelligence

        • Business Management

        • Expense Management

        • Fundraising

        • Inventory Management

        • Payroll

        • Resource Management

        • Tax Management & Preparation

        • Time Tracking

To compile our listings:

        • We scanned multiple SMB “resource” and review sites, including Capterra, G2 Crowd, TrustPilot and more, to build a baseline inventory of offerings in each of our categories, and to then measure the quantity of SMB-sourced reviews for each product or service listed.

        • We then applied Google metrics to specific categories and sub-categories to again measure volume of online search activity for each product or service listed.

        • We combined our measurements to create an “order” to our overall listing, our inference that the volume of measurable SMB interactions (reviews, searches) is an excellent proxy for B2SMB product or service presence, if not marketplace success.

The online-only version of the SMB FIN 1000 Directory is available for free to B2SMBI Members and non-Members alike, and requires e-mail registration to access.

While we would not represent our Directory order as a traditional ranking – a ranking based on dollar-volume sales or other revenue-based metrics – we trust that our list provides a directional sense of largest to smallest players in each FIN 1000 category.

We invite any feedback, corrections, updates or lively debates as we consider all 3 of our SMB 3000 Directories to be living, evolving resources for our B2SMB community of users.
